our services

Our financial planning services may cover some or all of the following areas:

  • Cash Flow Planning - We review your income and expenses to identify and allocate excess cash, as well as determine your retirement income needs. We also recommend cash reserves for emergencies, vacations and other financial goals.

  • Debt Management - Retirees want enter retirement with as little debt as possible. As part of your plan, we’ll help you get control of your debt by creating a plan to pay it off more quickly, saving you significant interest over time.

  • Investment Planning - We create an investment plan that aligns with your tolerance for risk and retirement income needs, and help you assemble a low-cost, tax-efficient portfolio. We recommend other strategies such as tax-loss harvesting, regular investment rebalancing, and Roth IRA conversions.

  • Insurance Planning - We review and/or recommend life, health (including Medicare and Marketplace coverage), and other insurance policies to help ensure protection of retirement income. We may also recommend dropping certain unnecessary coverages.

  • Retirement Income Planning - Social Security is of paramount focus at our firm. We’ll help you understand how to optimize this benefit to fit your retirement needs. Many retirees have pensions as well. We’ll analyze your pension benefits to ensure they compliment your Social Security and retirement account withdrawal strategies.

  • Tax Planning - By regularly reviewing your tax returns and being keenly aware of your financial situation, we’ll provide advice on how to minimize current and future income taxes as a part of your overall financial plan. Our goal is to help you pay as little tax as possible, while staying well within the confines of the law. If needed we’ll recommend tax preparers to assist you and we’ll coordinate with them.

  • Estate Planning - To help you direct your assets where you want them to go when you die and reduce probate costs, we’ll review your estate documents, or make recommendations to have them completed. We’ll recommend attorneys to assist you, and coordinate with your chosen attorney.

Our Financial Planning Process

INITIAL CONSULTATION MEETING

To better understand your needs and to ensure our services are a good fit, we first hold a short Initial Consultation Meeting.

This helps us understand what you’re looking to accomplish and it gives us an opportunity to explain our Services, Process, and Pricing (see below). We want to make sure we’re a good fit for you, and you’re a good fit for us.

Get Organized Meeting

Once we’ve decided to work together, the fun begins (sort of).

One of the biggest obstacles to some retirees’ financial success is getting organized. During the optional Get Organized Meeting we’ll work together to get all of your important financial documents organized and in one place.

These documents may include investment statements, loan documents, pay stubs, tax returns, Social Security statements, and insurance documents, just to name a few.

Explore possibilities meeting

The Explore Possibilities Meeting allows us to decide which retirement dreams and goals may become your reality, and what adjustments need to be made to improve your chances.

To help us with this, we review all of your financial documents provided prior to this meeting, and utilize financial planning software before and during the meeting to explore what may be possible for you.

Plan Delivery meeting

Once we’ve explored what’s possible we create a financial plan that makes sense to you, complete with tasks to work on to help you reach your goals. If there are shortcomings to reaching your goals, we’ll decide together what to work on and when.

OUR ONGOING financial planning RELATIONSHIP

As we meet semi-annually, typically in May and November, we’ll regularly review the goals you’d like to achieve, two to three tasks to complete over the next few months to help reach those goals, and any opportunities on the horizon (e.g., ways to reduce taxes, manage financial risks, etc.)

Like almost everything in life, financial priorities can change. When changes happen, we’ll make adjustments to your financial plan along the way. I’ll also regularly remind you of timely financial topics to be thinking about that may not be part of your plan. You’ll also have full access to me as your financial planner via phone or email.

Most importantly, you’ll have a road map to guide you toward a more fulfilling life, and an advisor to help you along the way.
